Prof. Axel Schneider
China, history of historiography, modern Chinese intellectual history, Taiwan, theory of historyProf. Axel Schneider studied sinology, political science and history in Erlangen and Bochum, Germany, as well as in Taipei, Taiwan and specialized in modern Chinese history with a focus on intellectual history and the history of science/scholarship. He has completed long-term research periods at Harvard University, Cheng-Chi University (Taipei) and Beijing University. After 10 years as a member of the Institute of Chinese Studies at Heidelberg University, Axel Schneider took responsibility for the establishment of the modern Chinese Studies at Leiden University. Since 2009, Professor Schneider has been in charge of the reorganization of studies in Modern Sinology at the Georg-August-University Göttingen.
