Prof. Andrea D. Buehrmann

After studying sociology, philosophy and political science, Andrea D. Bührmann obtained her doctorate from the University of Münster in 1995. She trained as a personnel officer before becoming a research associate at the Chair of Sociology at the University of Paderborn. During her time at the University of Paderborn, she coordinated the DFG project “The crisis of modernity”. With support from a DFG fellowship, she completed her habilitation thesis in 2003 to qualify as a professor in the field of sociology.

Andrea D. Bührmann then worked as acting professor at the Universities of Dortmund and Munich and as a visiting professor at the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna. In 2009 she became adjunct professor at the University of Münster, and since 2011 she has held the position of full professor at the University of Göttingen. In 2013 she became the founding director of the Göttingen Diversity Research Institute. During the summer term of 2014, Professor Bührmann was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley and, during the summer term of 2015, she was a visiting professor at the University of Klagenfurt. In October 2015 Professor Bührmann became University Vice President for Teaching and Learning.
